Sheriff Judd is the man - I watched him say that live on TV.
The suspect had already executed a deputy with a contact shot to the head, and killed a K-9 dog. He also wounded another deputy.
When he pointed his stolen pistol at the SWAT guys, they responded appropriately.

Hm. Had they shot and killed him with one or two shots, they'd be hailed as saviors of the citizens around them. That he was shot and killed with a few more means everyone had a patent disregard for this murderer's life? Hm.
On the contrary, I'm certain the responding deputies regarded things very seriously as they took stock of the situation, including the upraised gun that the murderer showed. Oliver Wendell Holmes was wiser than the FCRA folks, it seems.

Exactly. If your'e going to kill anyone (and I don't hold this one against them at all) isn't that - by definition - a disregard for life?

I think that the police should have backed off a bit, and sent in the Florida Civil Rights Association...with the media as a back up! (Give 'em each one bullet.)

I believe it's exactly the opposite. I strongly believe that a high regard for the lives of innocents is the underlying justification for the defense of life, even if that results in the taking of a life, regardless of whether that life is that of a rabid dog or a proven murderer in the act of attempting to commit another.
This high regard is what allowed a patriotic and religious Alvin York to do a tough job in the first world war. It's what prompts honorable LEO's to do the job they have. It's what prompts us to defend our families and our own lives. I have no desire to cause any death, yet I will not allow the innocent lives of my family members to occur if I'm able to guard against it, no matter the cost. That's the highest regard I can hold for innocent life.

Hey...you are assuming that the member of the news media have gonads bigger than that of a gnat and that they would actually back someone up if the need was there. Most of them dont and would'nt.
Since the FCRA seem to be more concerned about the number of times a murderer gets shot that the suvivors of the dead officer, I'll put them in the same category as the news media.
