    Angry Christmas Rant

I had it. I am up to here with idiots, passive aggresive manipulators and overall morons flooding every shopping space like desperate vampires looking for a fix. I am fed up with the TV News Sob stories of families YOU MUST HELP or we will make you feel like a hun (As in Atilla, not as Baby Hunny at the corner bar).

If you are an Out of Towner who traveled to Florida to escape the cold weather from the North, don't turn around and complain that "It does not feel like Cristmas because there is no snow." And by the way, being from out of town does not cancel any laws or rules regarding what constitutes good behavior so do not act like a 12 year old and then be surprised you get smacked.

Don't email me or write "Merry Xmas." The guy whose birthday we are celebrating was called Jesus Christ and not Jesus X. This is NOT a Spike Lee movie. And speaking of movies, don't lie to me and say your favority Christmas movie is It's a Wonderful Life or Miracle in 34th Street. You have not watched either since you were 8 years old, hell you probably don't even own the DVD or video!

As for Christams music... ENOUGH! If I hear another 7 hour medley of the elevator music of Rudolph the Red Nose Raindeer, Frosty the Snowman, White Christmas and other assorted watered down songs, I'll move to Tibet. IMHO there are only 2 valid Christmas songs : The Carol of the Bells and Adeste Fidelis. If I feel brave I'll go for Handell's Messiah but only once.

No, I am not planning on wearing green and red items of clothing to get "in the spirit." All of you dressed in greens and reds look like escapees from an alternative-lifestyle Robin Hood movie. And be my guest and decorate to your heart's content, just don't keep me awake at night with 10KW halogen spotlights aimed at my windows while the inflatable carrousel keeps playing It Is A Small World After All until 3 am. I might get just a tad cranky.

And no, I don't plan on reading, declamating, orating any writer's Christmas story/tale/remembrance. I'll stick with the original version published a couple of thousand years ago.

Soyy for the outburst but I needed to get it off my chest.

Oh Miggy - if ya knew just how much I am on same page as you!!

Commercialism has ruined the ''real'' Christmas - and I say that as a not religious man. I still tho hold on to the ''sanctity'' of Christmas - as it was meant to be.

I all but refuse to get ''sucked in'' these days - and folks can call me Scrooge all they want

No need to apologize for the so called 'outburst'. We need to do that now and then,---all of us. I'm with you on all of it, and quite frankly---if I think too long about all that stuff, It makes me want to puke. I'm not anti-social by no means, just that I see things every day that actually make me question humanity and it's continued existence. Know what I mean?
Pick a good forum, or some games, e-mail some friends, do the myspace thing---whatever. You need to get your mind off it. All those people you saw today in mass, collective, capitalist frenzy are not operating on their own free will. They're all part of the 'pathetic flock following the herd'. Take comfort in knowing you're not a part of the hoard.
Happy holidays are just two words--take them any way you wish, but I will extend those words to you and a Merry Christmas as well. Elevating your blood pressure tasks your health. Don't let anyone or anything ruin your spirit for the holidays. Don't let them win! Find solace in the fact that others relate to your plight.

    Suggestion:
Turn off the TV and stop watching "Alvin & the Chipmunks at Christmas".
If you like, make your gifts. I bake - yes, it isn't something I advertise, but no one has turned down my peanut brittle or Springerly cookies. Take the time to breath, talk with someone you have not talked to in a while.
Reject tradition if it becomes burdensome. Maybe go someplace new, perhaps charity work to see 'what you should be thankful for not having'.

Really, the season can be the best time, or the worst, but it is the individual who decides which road to take.

I'm with you Miggy. I have a few pet peaves too about Christmas.

The one that annoys me most is people the wear a Santa hat around thinking they are cute, funny, or anything close to original.

It makes my skin crawl when someone tells me happy holidays. I understand that not everyone celebrates Christmas... but I dont care if you do or dont. Its still the Christmas season, and I hope yours is merry.

Sadly, at least in many parts of the U.S., the commercial nightmare the day has become has become farcical in the extreme. Has been for a couple/three decades, now.

I also do without the clods. I simply avoid them by sidestepping the lunacy (shopping morass) altogether. Works very well.

Actually, it is. So far as feel-good films go, it isn't a bad choice.

Well, if you want snow, come on up to Indiana, we are about to get hit with 8-12" in the next 48 hours. I don't go in for all the commercial stuff either, but I can't wait to go by the Church tomorrow where they are having a live nativity scene. I have been taking vacation days every fri in Dec, spending more time with the family, and I can't wait to go and sing in the Choir at Midnight on Christmas eve.

I knew I forgot one! Anybody who wishes me Happy Holidays gets a loud Merry Christmas from me.

ccw, I did not mean to imply that the movie is bad but that people just say it is their favorite to be "in the season." I particulary don't think much about It is a Wonderful Life but I do like Miracle and watch it every time it comes on TV. Then again I am weird and love Three Godfathers, nothing like a Christmas movie with the Duke.

Wife hates Snow so we are stuck down in sunny, humid South Florida... for now

And Ralph, God Bless & Merry Christmas.

I love snow, I cant get enough of it. If northern Ohio police departments paid like the southern Ohio ones did, I'd move north in a heartbeat.

We are supposed to get that same storm that Ralph was talking about, but we are expecting 4-6". What that really means in greater Cincinnati weather forcasting is a dusting of snow and a lot of cold rain.

HAHAHA, how true. I think its because a lot of people are out and about, and a lot of those people are not typically out on the road during the busy times. Combine that with people having their heads up... well, lets just say they are not looking out side their windshield, thinking about all the garbage they need to get done for Christmas.
