I can't say that I'm terribly surprised. I'm a public school teacher in FL. My children will not be attending public school. This single moment of stupidity with the steak knife is overshadowed by the systemic daily stupidity of what goes on in many classrooms. This is what happens when bureaucrats get ahold of... well, anything. My wife and I are thinking we may start a home-school coop, where we split the duties and costs of home-schooling for a group of families. And yes, our teachers will be encouraged to carry. And use common sense. And teach.

The problem, zero tolerance aside, is a lack of solid vocabulary on the part of officials, who could easily have redefined the problem out of existence.

The teachers who 'turned her in' should be fired, the administrators who allowed it should be arrested for stupidity. What is the country coming to ???
I believe this is the school:

Oh and we can't teach our kids to think. They might think something we don't like...
I am so happy I at least got my kid into a charter school... not the best, but by far better then public school.

It has reached the point where I am thoroughly convinced that it is child abuse to place a child in a public school.

If the cops actually cuffed her they should be shot in each butt cheek for stupidity...
Having gone through the Florida public school system, this surprises me... not... one... bit. Seen it happen, been involved in it happening, and have no doubt it will continue to happen as the public school system continues to decline.

I stopped looking at this page after reading their policy reminder:
"From now on parents who want to eat with children in their child’s class will need to stay in the cafeteria. For safety reasons, children can not be taken out of the cafeteria to eat and play outside. However, if a parent or approved family member wants to eat with their own child, he/she may still go with their child to the picnic tables. Please know that these picnic areas are for eating only and that children should stay at the tables with their family member. REMEMBER: All visitors to South Ocala must check in at the front office with their driver’s license and receive a visitor’s ID badge."

Fortunately, the rural area I am now located in...does NOT pull this kind of lunacy. You can discuss Jesus, guns, and many other topics without the fear of reprisals...one can even hold kids 'accountable' for most of their actions

...ALL...is not lost!

Sounds good. OK, fess up. What country are you really in???
