Tired of nothing but bad news? Read this...
I was just reading a thread in here about being fed up with all of the negativity on the news these days. Here's the thread...
Anyways, I agree. If you watch the news, it would seem that the world is crawling with scumbags and people who are out to get you. But you guys really should check out my dad's website. It is a GREAT read.
My dad is 60 years old and retired from General Motors when they closed the plant here in Oklahoma City a couple of years ago. He is also a Vietnam veteran, and a VERY proud American. All of his life, he has been into bicycling. Nothing serious, but he just likes to ride. Anyways, since he figured that he had nothing to do now that he's retired, he would ride his bicycle across the USA! He bought a Rans recumbent bike a little over a year ago, a trailer and started collecting his gear and training for the ride. When I say train, he would ride about 15 to 30 miles every other day or so around a flat lake road here SE of Oklahoma City. HA! Not exactly preparing for the Rockies. We were worried before he left about all of the idiots and scumbags he would probably come across on the roads out there. He was going to get a CCW and take his .40 with him, but he couldn't have it in a couple states along his route. So, he carried bear spray instead.
Anyways, back in April, I loaded him, his bike and all of his gear up in my trusty old S-10 and we headed off to Oregon. Three days later, I dropped him off at the beach in Florence, Oregon with his back tire sitting in the Pacific Ocean! For the next 80 or so days, he rode the 4,400 miles to Yorktown, VA. He made an excellent journal about his ride with LOTS of stories and pictures. I thought that the neatest part about it was all of the people he met on the way and how everybody was willing to feed him, give him a place to stay, or a place to camp or help him out in some way. Never once did anybody cause him any trouble. He met nothing but good American people along the way. He says that he is glad he didn't bring the gun as it would have just been extra weight! I encourage you guys to check out his website at www.grandpalosthismind.com
Click on his journal when you get there. Thanks,
