SD, I'm glad to see you use the phrase "big brother." I read George Orwell's "1984" (in the 1960's). Over the last 40 some-odd years, I've watched his scenario come closer and closer to reality. I choose to resist this particular invasiveness, this tightening of big brother's noose on my neck, with my vote and letters to my elected representatives.
There's lots of things I can't do much about. And you're right. The technology has already been used in many ways, and I'm thankful for some of those ways. But have we found the technology to be foolproof? Not hardly!
To me, this Real ID idea just goes too far. It's not just useable for employee verification, or for airline flights. I've flown 4 times since 9/11. I've stood in lines. Somehow I just don't believe that Real ID will eliminate those lines.
No, this Real ID thing will be the boondoggle of boondoggles, government control, new bureaucracy, and (as one poster pointed out-and I believe it too) ways will be found for the bad guys to work around it. Not worth it.
