Any murder is a tragedy. Put in political perspective, Bhutto was a socialist of the first order. She made Hillary look like a conservative. Bhutto was a combination of Castro and Chavez and no friend of the United States.
She should have remained in exile.
I will not mourn her passing.

Mushariff will be (is being) blamed by her supporters. Since Mushariff is our SOB, we'll probably be blamed for the whole affair.
I wouldn't put it past Musharref. He's a slimeball of the lowest order. Then again, al Qaeda has made several attempts on Bhutto's life previously.
Such is life in Pakistan/Afghanistan.
Paraphrasing from the movie Aliens:
I say we leave and nuke the entire region from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
Musharref is no nice guy but is the best we got. We need someone like him in Iraq. A nasty SOB who will crack down as needed and attempt to balance the country. We may complain about him but the hardliners there really hate him.
The stupid thing is his gov't denied Bhutto a permit for a rally in that exact spot one month ago for security reasons. He was condemned for "stifling dissent" so this time she got her permit. Now they will blame him...
The direction this is all headed is NOT good...
I'll refrain from further comment...
"That I cannot do."

AQ is claiming responsibility for the act. She was, for that area, a politically moderate FEMALE. They would certainly have a motive. The last thing this nuclear armed area of the world needs is greater instability. There are factions of the Pakistani Gvt that are radical islamists. Greater instability could increase their influence and power base. This could progress to the point that they could come to be in control of these weapons. Would they be inclined to share them with AQ to further their quest for a global theocracy?

Predictable, yes. It's hard to believe there is so much intolerance and the degree to which some will take their cause to force their will on others.

It is decision time for Mushariff. Are you going to fight terrorists or not?
Interesting for all to notice that both Ron Paul and B Hussein Obama's strategist blame the USA for this assasination. They are oblivious to dangers that terrorism poses to the middle east and the world.
Of course we have yet to ascertain exactly what side the majority of Pakistanis are on...
Regarding the "Let's find another Hussein" question, perhaps that is what we need. Back in the days of the Cold War he was our guy. We didn't like him and he was a nasty SOB but he was a bulwark against the radical Islamists and more importantly the Soviet backed Iranians.
we are over there with the noble goal bringing Western Style Democracy to a region which has never had it, never asked for it, and is populated by a people more concerned with subjugating those of a different sect than they are in forming a gov't made up of many groups with respect for the rights of minority groups. We saw the same stupidity in Somalia but every time we encounter it we are surprised...
We cannot create a representative gov't on western democratic principals in another nation, they must do so themselves. Sadly Musharref may very well be the best thing over there when it comes to our interests.
Paul did not say we were directly responsible for her death. The Islamists though hate is in no small part because we are over there and meddling in the internal affairs of Islamic nations. Bhutto as a strong woman was a good target for what you get when you let Western (American) ideas in. They had plenty of reasons to kill her without America but I am certain our presence there was at least an added benefit to killing her if not a minor contributory cause. In the end though Paul is saying this is only one more example of why we shouldn't be involved in the mess that is other nations' internal policies.
