This is a discussion on Death Sentence within the Off Topic & Humor Discussion forums, part of the The Back Porch category; watched a pretty good movie on DVD today. Death Sentence with Kevin Bacon. Violent, with stabbings, and alot of shoot'em up bang, bang.
It could ...

I saw that 2 nights ago. The whole time I am saying, go out and buy some guns, you dimwit. How come Kevin, an executive, had to go to an illegal place to buy guns? And why the desert eagle and coach gun?
My wife and I have a boy. She was getting wigged out due to the graphic event that kicked off the whole movie. She patted my strong side to reassure herself during the movie.
The only other comment she made is that I should not have to take any training because Kevin Bacon became effective after spending a few minutes with the owners manuals. She did say it tongue in cheek though.
Very graphic and not for young eyes.

He had to buy the guns illegally because all guns are evil, and no good people own guns. Nobody should be able to buy them over the counter. At least that's the liberal hollywood view.
I hate Hollywood!!!

Interesting menagerie of firearms. 357 revolver, desert eagle (I think the .50AE) and a coach shotgun (two barrels, break open action).

Interesting. Maybe I'll get it on Netflix. That will mean a chick flick to make up for it though....is it worth it?

I thought this was one of the worst movies ever. Supposed to be a follow up/prequel type movie to Deathwish. At least in Deathwish Chuck Bronson's character had fired guns before and went to a range. Kevin Bacon's character became a freaking special forces quality shooter after reading a few instruction manuals. I must say, I was very disappointed.
To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them.

Didn't he leave the DE and take the 1911, Python and shotgun? Those barrels were a little long to be a coach gun. Overall, I liked it.

I believe he took all three, but I only saw him using the double barrel, break open shotgun and the 1911. I forgot about the 1911 until now.
Another note of a movie (sort of along the same lines) my wife rented was Vacancy
It is another movie where one has no tools of self-defense (firearms, knifes, impact tools) and by the end of the movie somebody had picked up firearms.

My wife and I watched "Death Sentence", and we both shook our heads in disgust throughout this rather graphic Hollyweird rendition of a Hatfield and McCoy kind of conflict that develops between supposedly nice people (sheeple) and disdainfully bad people (wolves).
As usually depicted these days, due to gross incompetence, or just plain laziness, the police and courts actually promoted the escalation of violence, which was awkwardly, if not stupidly conducted by all those involved. And, of course, the cliched moral message being forced down the throats of viewers is that "violence never solves anything".
BTW, while I certainly don't condone the despicable behavior of wolves, I personally find it difficult to feel compassion for sheeple. Any healthy person who lacks the fortitude to fight viciously for their own life isn't worth the air they breathe.
And Jesus said, "If you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one." (Luke 22:36)
I am a peaceful man. But I am not a pacifist.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOLIER
The movie was just another bite of liberalism poisioning americas youth. A sinister john goodman, dealing death, hidden behind a secret pannel. The whole revenge factor...
Hmm.. let me think...
lets say... He had a concealed weapons permit. His son walks into the gas station. The perps come in to hold up the place. He is more aware of his soroundings because of his ccw classes, and because of all the knowlege he has obtained on DefensiveCarry.com he can fully protect his family... And his family lives. His family supports him for the 90 days he was in jail before the court trial. Judge says it was self defense. Then they live happily ever after.

I saw this in the theatre and didn't like it.
Didn't he shoot about 15 rounds out of his 1911 without a mag change?
