    Arizona Mountain Lion

This mountain lion was hit between Prescott and Ashfork, Arizona by a car. Game and Fish had to come and put him down. He charged at the Fish and Game guy in the process. Look at the size of that paw!

Wow! What did they use to put it down with, and how many shots did it take? I take it the driver of the car was not carrying? What would you do? Stay in the car, or get out to check? That's awesome!

Don't think I'd want to play pat-a-cake with that bugger! If I hit him with a car The only way I'm getting out to check is with a good high powered rifle (like a .308 or better) or a trusty 12 with magnum buckshot. I'd prefer the rifle though!

That's amazing. I catch a rare glimpse of them around here also.

BTW, I wouldn't want him inside my fireplace.

What a beautiful animal. Too bad about the way it had to go.

That's every bit as large as the largest man, and several times stronger. Fending one of those off would be one heck of a challenge.

In the photo, the paw on that monster is as big as the gent's head. Ooof. I recall how much it hurts when the neighbor's cat ("Velcro") gets going at the ankles, or against your forearm when playing. Can't imagine a swipe from the mitts on the cougar.

Have seen them a couple times in the wild, at a distance. (Was glad for that.) Have seen reports of the damage they can do to a full-sized human, if caught unawares.

I imagine the Buick that struck 'im isn't doing too well.

That is a large cat, I doesn't suprise me though. The area from Granite Mountain, north up Big Chino wash, to Ashfork is littered with deep desolate canyons. There is a lot of game in that area, Whitetail, Mulies, Elk, etc etc. I have explored around quite a bit in there in my jeep and have seen some beautiful animals, mountain lions included. The old timers named some of those areas well indeed, Hells canyon, Devils canyon, Diablo canyon, just to name a few, a wild and beautiful place!

That is a big cat and it appears that he was pretty healthy. We have some around that the G&F transplanted and they arent near that big.

All of a sudden my .45 ACP seems insufficient when I camp out in the area.

Beautiful animal, what a shame it had to be put down. Of course I'm sure the deep, javalina and others in its food chain are not shedding any tears for it!

OK, I got to ask... was it you or someone you know that hit it Bumper? I'm just wondering what kind of damage it would cause to a car. I suppose it would be like hitting a deer around here.

It is a awesome animal, it is ashame it had to be killed.

It would be more of a shame not to skin it and hang it on the wall...
