Beaumont Officers Shoot And Kill Drug Suspect
    Bill Leger and Jennifer Heathcock
January 23, 2008 - 11:21PM | Digg | Print Story | E-Mail Story | Font Size Beaumont police say two officers opened fire on a 21-year-old man who tried to run over one of them with a vehicle during an undercover narcotics operation.

The officers have been placed on administrative leave with pay, which is standard procedure in such a case.

It happened shortly after nine o'clock Wednesday night in the parking lot of the Jack in the Box near the intersection of MLK and Washington Boulevard.

Authorities say when the undercover drug deal went bad, the suspect attempted to run over an officer standing near the front of his vehicle.

Two officers opened fire striking the vehicle and the suspect.

Authorities say the suspect was wearing a bullet proof vest but was wounded near the neck.

He was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in critical condition and died a short time later.

Police have not yet identified the officers nor the suspect.

Stay with KFDM and for the latest on the story.
On 01-23-08 at 2110 hours, Officers from the Beaumont Narcotics Units and Street Crimes Unit were conducting Tactical Operations in the South end of Beaumont. During a controlled drug buy in the parking lot of Jack-n-the-Box located on Washington Blvd., Officers attempted to block in the suspect vehicle of which the occupants had just sold them narcotics from. The driver of the vehicle began to flee backwards and slammed into an undercover narcotics SUV. The driver of the vehicle then placed the vehicle into drive and began to move forward towards Officers approaching the vehicle. Officers then fearing for their lives, fired several rounds into the cab of the truck, stopping the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. His name is not being released at the time due to notification of the next of kin.

The two other occupants of the vehicle at the time of the incident were taken into custody for delivery of a controlled substance. They were transported to the Beaumont Police Department for statements in regards to this incident.

The suspect vehicle was towed to a local secure facility for processing. Other physical evidence located at the scene at the time of the incident was a bullet proof vest, which had been taken off the body of the driver of the vehicle by EMS personnel. Also found lying on the ground was cash in the denomination of twenty's and a clear plastic baggy of suspected crack cocaine. These were all submitted as evidence in this incident.

The two Officers involved in this incident were placed on administrative leave as per BPD policy. The investigation into this matter continues at this time.

Remember when I posted about getting my legs torn up? This is strikingly similar, minus the shots fired part.

People forget that cars are deadly weapons. Scary stuff, and it happens all the time. The last two critical incidents I was involved in, the weapon used against me was a car.
