I am not a HAM operator myself but would like to commend all operators for the service they provide. As a Viet Nam vet I still remember the MARS network that provided us with a method to call home, and also thank you for being the first to provide communications after any disaster and helping to coordinate relief forces.

ARRLWeb: ARRL Home Page has everything you need to know to get started. It is probably best to find a radio club in your area or at least an operator to help you along.

Blame it on Sixto - now that is a viable plan.

KC6***, TechPlus from the West Coast a dozen years ago, expired.

    The license, not me.

Repeater coverage out here is spotty, cellphones meet most of the need, and with a desire to keep a lower profile (wife/stalker) I haven't been much interested in renewing my license.

I mean, my wife was concerned about someone stalking her - my wife stalking me is OK.
