Exclamation Do U Want Fries w/ That? & Fries & Fries & More Fries

It's totally amazing that they did not catch her Acid Reflux Disease for an entire decade. Don't they have any Prilosec in Great Britain?

A girl of 15 has eaten almost nothing but CHIPS for the past 10 years.

Faye Campbell, of Stowmarket, Suffolk, has lived on chipped potatoes and refused to eat nearly anything else since she was a tot.

The Stowmarket High School pupil has a bizarre physical condition which made her ill every time she tried anything other than chips.

Her parents, Carolyn, 37, and Mark, 39, said they had been driven mad by Faye's one in a million diet.

Mrs Campbell said: "Faye just drank milk until she was four or five.

"We tried giving her everything but she rejected it.

"For some reason at that age she tried a chip and didn't eat anything else."

Carolyn said they had tried all sorts of ways to get Faye to eat different foods and had taken her to the doctor's repeatedly but without any luck.

Chips: Faye Campbell has eaten almost nothing but chips during her life.
But she said the teenager had been diagnosed with a condition called gastrooesophageal reflux two years ago - and there was finally light at the end of the tunnel.

The breakthrough came when she was referred to Dr Nigel Meadows, who runs the Feeding Team at St Bart's and The London NHS Trust.

Following two years of treatment, including work with a child psychologist and specialist medicine, Faye has now started trying plain burgers, plain noodles from one specific Chinese takeaway and potato waffles.

But her day-to-day diet still consists almost entirely of chips from a local chippie.

Dad Mark said: "It must seem extremely strange to other parents but now that it has been explained to us why this is happening we have a better understanding of it and it gives us a chance to manage the situation a bit better."

Carolyn added: "If it wasn't for Dr Meadows we'd still be banging our heads together looking for a solution.

"Now my hope is that by the age of 20, Faye will be able to go to a restaurant and order anything off the menu."

Gastrooesophageal reflux is one of the main causes of indigestion and heartburn and affects about 30 per cent of the UK population.

It is usually treated by antacids, which neutralise the acid in the stomach, or Proton Pump Inhibitors, drugs that reduce the amount of acid the stomach produces.

If medicines don't work, surgery may be considered which aims to make it harder for stomach contents to re-enter the oesophagus, so there is less reflux.

For sufferers such as Faye the condition is more distressing - the stomach sends strong acids back up the gullet and into the mouth.

Unreal! She looks a lot healthier than I'd expect, given her diet.

One of the reasons I posted this is that I was pretty doggone amazed that she looked as healthy as she did eating nothing but, a FF Diet.

I worked with a guy once that NEVER ate any fruit or vegetables. Never.
He looked very unhealthy. This guy was in his 30s at the time.
He said that he has never eaten any veggies or fruit since he was about 6 years old.
Once when I picked up our lunch order they put lettuce and tomato on his cheeseburger.
I told him just to take it off. No Way!
He actually drove back and returned it for a replacement burger because he did not want to eat a burger that had "vegetable residue" on it.
What a total "quirk" he was.

Let's see if I have this right. Gastrooesophageal reflux affects 30% of the UK population and it took the doctors 15 years to diagnose it in this girl? That's good medicine. I wonder how much of the gastrooesophageal reflux is caused by fear of being attacked and not being able to defend themselves.

    That's a great point dr_cmg

Or a fear of going to the Doctor & knowing in advance that the doctor won't be able to determine what is wrong with you for 10 or 15 years.

The UK is going to be a predominantly Islamic third world country within 15 to 20 years of that long. Mark my words. Unless those people grow spines and actually stand up for themselves, which I do not see happening, they will lose their entire country within 2 decades. Their "universally inept" health care system is just one indicator of this fact. Another big one is the fact that Shahira (sp?) courts are already operating in the UK right now.

    They are doomed.

Well its pretty apparent the brits are only SO bright (ahem no guns) so this honestly doesn't really shock/surprise me.

I've known folks that eat nothing but extremely healthy stuff, fruits, veggys and etc all the time, exercise alot,...And look "normal"

Meanwhile another aquintance does illegal drugs, and eats nowhere but taco bell and mcdonalds, smokes a pack a day, and looks healthy, and strong.

Its hardly surprising it took so long for them to diagnose her with the way the NHS operates over here. Unless your a royal or a member of parliament your not going to get a yearly physical which is worrying as it prevents diseases such as cancer and heart disease being caught and treated at an earlier stage. And with the current waiting lists for various things you could wait 6 weeks just to have some tests done and then another couple of weeks to hear the results, for non emergency surgery the waiting time in some areas can be as long as 18 months. I've heard of cancer patients waiting for over a month for surgery and chemotherapy.
(as far as the no gun thing it is actually a crime to have anything for self defense on you or in your home, even possessing pepper spray can get you sent to prison)

Wow. Sad, for whatever reasons, that it took so long. We figured out that our son had severe reflux when he was just 7 days old. Of course, we had ready access to smart doctors, were persistent, and did our own research to boot.
