    Dangers of fox hunting!!

Heard this on the radio on my way to work this morning. These guys are not only animal control, but full fledge LEO's. Makes me feel REAL safe knowing they are walking around with guns!!!

The bad news is the fox did test positive for rabies, so at least 1 person will be undergoing the shots.

    the bad

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Authorities are investigating an incident that led to a suburban Richmond police officer to be shot in the leg while trying to capture a rabid fox.

Police say two Henrico County officers were looking for the animal Sunday after a resident reported being attacked by a fox. When they encountered it, the fox attacked 1 of the officers.

Officials say both officers fired their weapons, killing the fox and striking one officer in the leg. It is unclear whether the round that hit the officer was shot from his own or another officer's weapon.

Police say the injured officer was taken to VCU Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening. The fox tested positive for rabies.

Most animal control people have rabies propholaxis shots as a condition of work. I did as a GI pest controler. The shots for rabies nowadays is not a big deal. Just not getting it is. I watched a 45 minute film back in the 1980s of people dying of rabies as part of an operational entomology class at Brooks AFB. I never got bit with out fessing up after that.
