    Ouch- Oil closes at $100.01

Oil Settles Above $100 a Barrel for First Time Ever

Light sweet crude closed at $100.01 today. Between the fighting in Nigeria, the refinery fire in Big Spring, and OPEC possibly cutting production, traders are worried about supply shortages.

    Hold onto your wallets folks.

What's new? I say boycott. Tired of it all. Either that or take over a country--Kuwait is ready IMO. Bunch of sissies and nothing but banks. We could have a mainline no problem. Non-hostile take-over. Piece of pie!

I worked in the oilfield for a long time and those boys are makin some money!! The oil that is that high is the stuff we are getting right out of the ground here in Ok, TX, AK and other states. I have seen a small time oil man go from a torn up trailer home to a $500,000 house in 3 yrs. Drives a Hummer to the oilfields! The only thing that save the wife and I, is I drive a company truck and they pay the gas.

My 55 mile one way commute may start to get annoying.

Nor do I. We spent a trillion dollars minimum on saving Kuwait and trying to save Iraq-a hopeless case, but that is a different issue.

We should be getting free oil until that trillion is repaid.

Except, that then we won't do what we should have been doing for the past 40
    years---find an alternative.

As soon as their are more hybrid cars or hydrogen vehicles available,my wife and I will buy one.Last april we bought a new Dodge 4 dr. truck. It will run on ethanol, but 90 miles away from us in Houston to buy it!Even if ethanol becomes available in more locations,of course,we will have a corn shortage!Or maybe a corn war! What country has corn we can covet?Do they have imaginary weapons of mass destruction?I see corn at $1.00 per kernel ,unless we can find a way to refine creme style to fuel.

Sadly, our domestic oil producers don't make nearly the price per barrel as the foreign producers.

Why is that? Different quality of oil? Costlier to recover?

I need a lesson in oil economics to understand the comment.

And this is why I drive a 45 MPG hybrid to work and back during the week and only drive my F-150 on weekends. No problem.

The refineries have a lock on the market.
They set the price and the producer has to take it, or he can't sell.
Grew up in the oilfield and to this day don't know why the inequity.
