    Lunar Eclipse

PA was lucky last night - to not only have the sky clear out in the evening but - got to see a full lunar eclipse, at least here in SW region.

The pic shows six stages towards what was full occlusion - the moon disappeared. It was too cold to wait for reappearance, which would of course have been simply a reversal of these pics. I saw one 10 years ago which was not quite complete - this was the best ever.

Exposures are a compromize as the contrast between bright and dull is considerable.

I watched it through my telescope.
There was some cloud cover but, that cleared up for a while and what I saw was well worth the effort.
It was dad-blamed cold outside but luckily I was able to set up in front of an open window and watch it all go down from inside my home.

Lol - I used the Eclipse as a good chance to take a peek at saturn with my telescope. Eclipse meant lots less extra moonlight fudging up my view(at least for a few minutes anyway).

I'm just glad it finally cleared up. For a while there I was thinking I wouldn't get to see it compliments to all that snow, sleet, and freezing muck that kept falling. Then it mysteriously cleared rather quickly and I had clear skys for the most part from around 9:30 on.

Great photos, Chris. I was working so I missed it, but there were cloud formations playing games with the moon all last evening. Many got to see it here and talked about the what the clouds kept moving and almost obscuring the moon and then clearing. There should have been some great photo ops here, but don't know if anyone took any.

Thanks for posting them, it lets me see what I missed.

Sweetness. On a side note: IIRC, the reason the moon does not turn black is because there is too much light coming from the sun, going through the earth's atmosphere where the different colors of light get trapped except red, which goes on to the moon. A lunar eclipse is viewable with the naked eye, a solar is not, unless you want a dose of bad rays in your eyes. You still get the damage to your eyes, just not the bright light. But they do make glasses that you can use to see it. There is one in August I believe.
Gun control can be blamed in part for allowing 9/11 to happen.
