    Plain Dumb: Smashing Bullets, Not Pumpkins

    This was in my local paper today. I do hope that he is ok, but where were the parents?

    HIGH FALLS - A 15-year-old High Falls boy was hospitalized after injuring himself while smashing bullets with a hammer, state police at Ulster said.

    One of the .22-caliber bullets exploded, and a piece of metal lodged in his eye. The accident occured at the boy's home around 5 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

    He was flown to Albany Medical Center for treatment.

    All I can say is wow...... are people this dumb? it seems like parents are just giving up now a days

    By fifteen, I had been shooting for nine years. I thank my Dad and Grandpa daily for teaching me the right way. Obviously this kid lacked much parental involvement with firearms training.

    Did alot of stupid stuff but hitting ammo hit a hammer was not one of them.

    How can a tiny 40 grain piece of lead explode when hit with a hammer?

    Should have taught this on Mr. Rogers

    I am 37 and was a latch key kid. Iwatched a lot of catoons that would be consirered violent as a kid. Never dropped an anvil on somebodys head, never pointed a shotgun at Daffy Duck or Bugs Bunny. Don't know why I was never temped to take a hammer to a bullet?
