My House Just Got Bombed- Seriously...

As I write this there are four full size fire engines, a hazmat truck, a Fire Chief Command Vehicle, and four police cruisers sitting outside my house.

Some neighborhood punks thought it would be funny to put a chemical bomb on my front step. When I was telling the police dispatcher about it she kept putting me on hold because of several 911 calls that came in to report hearing a gun shot, guess where???? Well when they finally handled those calls I explained again what happened, thus the armada of equipment in front of my house.

The punks will not think it is too funny when they find out this little prank is a full on post 9/11 felony now- they should have done flaming dog poo. Unfortunately, this is one of those "I know who did itbut can't prove it" situations.

The hazmat team got to play with there $400,000 WMD identifier toy - about the size of small suitcase. The bomb was a lye base with foil and scored the concrete good. Can't wait to see what it does to my paint.

Glad my wife and kids are out of town. I will count myself lucky that I did not walk into the dang thing as I usually get the mail around that time since I enjoy the walk in the cool night air.

This has gone from ringing my doorbell, to throwing beer cans in my backyard, to a freaking caustic chemical bomb. I am beginning to get "annoyed"...

Did you make the news? Your 15 minutes of fame.

I suppose if you give the name of the person you suspect did it, the police will have a nice talk with them and most certainly figure out what is going on.

    Glad no one got hurt.

I would be pissed. Make sure to collect for a newly painted house. Some punk will roll over once the police get involved.

FYI - Drano and tin foil in a 2 liter makes for a hell of a hydrogen bomb. Sounds like what you got.
Why do you own a fire extinguisher when you have the fire department to protect you?

I am sure the event will get a blurb in the little free town paper that gets thrown on my driveway every week.

My fear is that the punks will think the complete circus they created was "cool" and step it up. I think a wireless security camera system is on my shopping list now.

Do you have video surveillance of your front and back yards? If not yet, this might be the time to do something about that. These little need to be caught and introduced to Bubba down at lock-up.

That sucks... do you think you were targeted for a specific reason? i.e., you work in an animal lab (ALF), you just built the house or build houses for a living (ELF), you're a minority (nsm88), etc?

Sorry to hear about your plight...

Just think, if you lived here in Texas, you could have lit all of them up and been completely justified...

The aluminum foil in the solution of lye and watter makes Hydrogen gas, and when the plastic bottle ruptures is what makes the bang, they did the same thing on Myth busters with dry ice and water. But a bomb is a bomb and in Mi it will land you in jail post haste.

Would this have something to do with you neighbor problems a while back?

Would this be considered a life threatening attack if you were outside and witnessed this?

Does this really fall under the "bomb" category.

Ive always been curious because ive been tempted to make one myself since its just air pressure that causes it to pop, if its actually considered a bomb I wont even bother.

Glad you and yours are alright...I wouldn't imagine the cops play around with this sort of thing. They'll squeeze one of the kids, round up his buddies and they'll all have a lovely time down at juvi.

It becomes a bomb in my mind, when someone uses it with malicious intent to attack me, my family, and my property. Prior to that I would have called it kids being kids. As a youth we played with similar devices (dry ice) but never at anybody else's expense.

Spoke with the kid's father this evening. He slept through the entire event and was defensive about my suggestion that his son, while perhaps not involved directly in last night's event, was the original instigator of the pranks for which his friends now perpetrate on his behalf. I suggested he apply some pressure to stop this escalation as I will hold him and his son accountable for all future attacks. As a courtesy I advised him not to be surprised should the police wish to speak to his son.

I am researching my surveillance options and for what I want to accomplish a budget system may not be in the offering. Any suggestions that people have direct experience with would be appreciated.
