    Choose your doctors carefully

    Fox News Story
A German retiree is taking a hospital to court after she went in for a leg operation and got a new anus instead, the Daily Telegraph is reporting.

The woman woke up to find she had been mixed up with another patient suffering from incontinence who was to have surgery on her sphincter.

The clinic in Hochfranken, Bavaria, has since suspended the surgical team.

Now the woman is planning to sue the hospital. She still needs the leg operation and is searching for another hospital to do it.
    That is plain scary.

I hope she enjoys her new sphincter. Its not every day one can upgrade like that. I wonder how the leg is doing.

I wonder who the poor schlep was that had to break the news to her, and how they did it. " I got good news and bad news. Your leg is still jacked up, but you got a new sphincter out of it. Lets schedule your leg to get taken care of next Monday. I'm sure the hospital will throw in something else for you because of your troubles."

I wonder how much they bill for a new sphincter.

I'm reasonably sure that she'll find out.

My late Mother was ignored for 15 minutes after ringing for a nurse to help her to the bathroom. They didn't want her up by herself as the reason she was in the hospital involved a lack of balance, causing her to fall. So she gets up herself, fell and was injured (not major). They sent her down to x-ray, lied to her doctor about the event, buried the report of the event, etc. Bottom line, they sent her a bill for ~$2.5K IIRC for that "additional medical care". We marked it "Deceased" and returned it to the hospital numerous times before they took the hint and wrote it off.

Even when they screw up, they expect you to pay.

Seriously, I read one article involving a patient afflicted with cancer in one of his testicles, but the surgeon removed the healthy one instead.

I read another article involving a patient who was afflicted with cancer in one leg, but the surgeon amputated the other healthy leg instead.

These aren't merely mistakes, as is the case when a waitress serves you tea when you distinctly ordered coffee. These are inexcusable acts of malpractice. And the quacks who carelessly destroy lives should be severely punished, not simply reprimanded.
And Jesus said, "If you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one." (Luke 22:36)

    Nicely put ridurall.

I've had a couple minor operations, and the doctors have always been careful and marked the spot while I was watching and asked me about it etc... I heard something about this on the radio the other day - some guy was talking like 99.9% was a pretty good record for a doctor. Yeah, its pretty good. The problem is, "pretty good" gets you a new sphincter when you needed something done with your leg!
