    VA Governor shows true colors

(AP) The first woman barred from parole under Virginia's "three-time loser" law is free after 23 years in prison.

Governor Tim Kaine on Tuesday signed a conditional pardon for 49-year-old Ollin Renaye Crawford, saying she had paid her penalty to society. He was the fourth governor to consider her request.

Crawford was then freed from Virginia Correctional Center for Women in Goochland County. She was convicted in 1985 of robbing four Fairfax County banks in an eight-week period using a fake grenade.

Crawford was one of nearly 500 state prison inmates barred from parole consideration under a 1982 law aimed at protecting the public from dangerous repeat criminals convicted of three or more armed robberies, rapes or murders.
Once again Virginia's Governor Kaine shows his true colors. Seems the laws that were put in place to protect society are flexible when he wants them to be. Three strikes and your out should mean exactly that.

Was she not sentenced under federal law? I guess I don't understand pardon powers. Robbing a bank is a federal offense - how can a Governor pardon someone sentenced under federal statutes? Was she only charged under state statutes?

Strange. He's obviously still a dolt thou.

Bank robbery is a federal and state offense. Many times the feds or the state will defer prosecution to the other. If she was prosecuted under state law then Kaine could give a pardon. As far as when he leaves office, next year. I agree it isn't soon enough. He and Wilder are two reasons VA doesn't allow consecutive terms for Gov..

A quaint little law the rest of the incumbents should have to deal with in America. Want to run again? Fine, but you're sitting out a term.
