IOWA CITY, Iowa —
Authorities said multiple family members were shot Monday morning on Iowa City's east side.

KCCI-TV in Des Moines reported that police were looking for a man named Steve Suppel in connection with the shootings, which happened on Barrington Road shortly after 7 a.m.

Students and faculty at the University of Iowa received text and telephone messages warning that there was an active shooter in the Iowa City area. The message said police were looking for a white man in his 40s, driving a 1998 tan Toyota Sienna minivan with Iowa license plate number 501 BLO.

No details were available on how many people may have been shot or their conditions.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation said it had agents in route to assist with a death investigation, but declined further comment.
