FRANKLIN—A resident of Southampton Meadows trailer park was treated and released from Southampton Memorial Hospital on Tuesday after accidentally shooting himself in the head.

Dario Winborne, 18, told police he found a small-caliber handgun and was “examining it” when it discharged, leaving a superficial wound on his forehead, according to Detective Cpl. Richard Morris, spokesman for the Southampton County Sheriff’s office.

Winborne was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle. Hospital workers called police at about 6 p.m. to report a man with a gunshot wound to his head. Morris said police responded to the emergency room and to Southampton Meadows. They were unable to find the gun.

Winborne was outside at the time of the shooting, with nobody around him. There were no other injuries.

There were no charges stemming from the incident.

AND NOW THE REST OF THE STORY..............................

Anybody believe he found it, it shot him in the head, then he lost it?

The idiot was playing Russian roulette with some of his buddies, and lost, with a good piece of luck thrown in.

I believe possilble evidence tampering charges since they can't find the gun. Maybe even a criminal idiocy charge (if only that were a real crime).

Uhhh more like he owed somebody money and if he filed a police report about it, I'm sure he was afraid the guys would be back to finish the job.

I got a similar story at work a couple weeks ago. A guy limps into the ER with two bullets in his bottom. His story was that he was practicing holstering his gun and it went off twice. Then he lost the gun. The angle at which they went in and the fact one entered right above his rectum, is pretty much an impossible angle to shoot yourself. Plus there were no powder burns on his jeans. More like he was running away.

He didn't even know the caliber of gun which shot him. It was a small caliber like a .32 or .35. We had to send him by chopper to a bigger hospital because the bullets flew around like pinballs inside and tore a whole lot up.

Maybe he "examined" it by looking down the barrel of the gun to see if it was loaded...YUP it was!
It's not about the caliber you carry, it's about how you USE it.

Never a surplus of stupid people around. It doesn't seem likely that it was self-inflicted, unless the handgun was illegal, and thought it would be better to ditch it somewhere.

Luckily, Dario has an obviously 'thick skull'...
