Something Else For Parents To Worry About

I'm posting this in OT, but there definitely isn't any humor in it.

Locally, our Sheriff's Dep't drug & alcohol enforcement team has seen an alarming increase in the latest teen fad, "pharming" parties. This is where the party-goers dump their pills & drugs (OTC or prescription, whatever they can get) into one big communal bowl, then grab and swallow a handful and wash it down with beer.

A 16 year old recently died here after playing this version of Russian Roulette.

Its been going on for more than a few years now, we loose at a few kids every year around here to this "game", mostly this time of the year too. Its popular among the younger teens, as they might not have access to the street drugs just yet.

Nothing new in this end of the world either. The kids have an easier time raiding the home medicine cabinet than they do hitting the corners. OTC cough/cold preps are the rage too. Coricidin D is a popular one. They drink a whole bottle and get this bizarre anti-cholinergic like psychosis. Really hard to deal with.

Sorry, guys, I didn't mean to imply this was anything new. "Trendy" fads tend to hit Montana a bit later than the rest of the country.

It's taken a while, but it's now official. Montana has a confirmed MS-13 gang presence. Lucky us.

Maybe it's because I'm not too far removed from those teen years (amazing how much older I feel 4 years later, and yes, i still know everything but I'm getting better) but I really have no sympathy for the kids that do that. If you can't figure out that popping a bunch of pills at a party and washing it all down with a beer can probably kill you then I'm sorry for your parents. If you do realize that it can kill you and yet you still do it then by all means continue - the gene pool is better off without you.

Wouldn't you just like to be a 'dictator' for a day?

The answer to this is simple. Upon conviction of a crime and proof of a concurrent "gang affiliation" enhancement, the offender gets to serve his sentence in full (no time off for good behavior) and then gets expatriated to some other state (banishment for life). Return and commit even a minor offense (traffic fully qualifies) and the offender gets a mandatory 10 year recidivist sentence in addition to whatever other sentence they get for the underlying offense.

All it takes is one law under the "gang affiliation" statutes and the MS-13 and other gang infestations will disappear in just a few years. Perhaps you should write your representatives?

    That's a fine idea.

    California comes to mind.
