My daughter's in 2d grade. Has a weekly, 15-20 word spelling test. One of daddy's jobs is to prep for the test every week, and I'm proud to say we do a pretty good job. I continue to be AMAZED at the words they're spelling in the 2d grade these days. Not what I remember from back in the day, that's for sure........
This week's notables: paragraph, petroglyphs, pursuit, exhibition, business, enough, and thousands.......just to name a few.
I am not looking forward to the 3d grade!

It is amazing what kids have to learn at such an early age these days. My homeschooled son is in 3rd grade and is learning things that I did not learn until 5th or 6th grade.

Wait until she starts with trigonometry later this term!
It's just a sine of the times. (Sorry if I'm going off on a tangent)

I mis-read your title.
I thought it said "Can you sMell better than a 2nd grader?"

I believe those puns are felony violations in some states.
If not, they SHOULD be.

If you look at the primers for grade schools during the mid 1700s (that is 1750 for those of you in Rio Linda) you would be shocked at what some of those kids had to learn. No wonder some of our most brilliant minds came out of that era.
Sounds like your daughter is right on track. I don't think we push our kids enough. Keep up the tutoring. Perhaps you can post her daily vocab list. Mite help with sum uv are spelling.

I taught 4th grade, and the kids had different lists for different skill levels. Sounds like she is on the Green list (highest level). I had 4 different levels all taking spelling tests at the same time - talk about a long drawn out process, just for a spelling test!
I say GREAT job!! Smart girl! Continue to be involved and encourage her, it is more important than you could ever imagine!

In second grade around here, our kids are sitting bored while the teacher struggles to communicate with non-English speaking students.

OK, so sorry about that. Next time I will share the responsibility and have my wife co-sine with with me on the pun.

Well, I can spell (and a few other subjects) better than some 2nd grade teachers, office staff, and administrators, based on the paperwork that comes to me from the school...
