One of my kids is in the hospital....

We have lived here in this house for 2 and a half years now. The twins were 3 when we moved here to Shelby County and they are about to turn 6 now. They both have an annoying habit of jumping the last two steps on the stair case when they are walking down stairs.

They get to the 2nd or 3rd step from the bottom and they jump the rest of the way down. Now old Dad has been telling them not to do that every time I see it. I tell them that they are going to get hurt but old Dad doesn't know anything right?
    Wrong.
Sunday night, Brandon jumped the last couple of steps and landed funny, went down hard on this left arm and snapped his left humerus bone at the elbow. In fact, the Doc showed us the X-Ray, he snapped the end of the bone completely off.

So, now he sits at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital last night and tonight after having surgery to repair the break and he now has two pins sticking out of his elbow and a cast on his arm. He's going to have the pins for about 3 weeks. And his T-Ball season is over for the year.

To top it off, I went down to the cafeteria this afternoon to get myself some lunch, and when I get back to his room, there is a photographer and some PR folks there snapping pictures of him and his nurse. Turns out the nurses on that floor voted him the most cute kid on the floor and the PR folks asked if they could shoot some pictures of him and include them in the new hospital pamphlet and advertisements that they will be coming out with this summer. So now he thinks he's a star.

I told the PR people that they were lucky that they talked to my wife, if they had talked to me about it we would have had to negotiate some kind of modeling fee or something.

Here's a couple of pictures of the little stinker in his bed at the hospital in case you guys want to see what a star looks like.

They gave him a Spiderman toy. Spiderman being his favorite super hero he's pretty happy. Le Bonheur is an amazing hospital and really one of the shining jewels of Memphis. And Lord knows Memphis needs more shining jewels...

Cute kid! Main question...did the other twin learn anything?

So far, all the other kids (We have 5 total) are treating the stairs with a new found sense of fear and respect. We'll see how long it lasts.

Gosh, he looks like such a trooper.

I pray that he recovers fully and won't do anything as silly ever, ever again. (Ya, right.)

Cute kid who'll make a great addition to their brochure. Hopefully when he's fully recovered he won't forget the lesson he learned. But then again, it sometimes seems like it's their jobs to find limits themselves regardless of what we, as parents, try and teach them. Tell him he's a star here, too...

That kid sure does have some good color to be coming out of surgery like that.

It amazes me how fast kids can bounce back from an injury.

I'm just glad that it wasnt worse. I can imagine how Mom and Dad felt.

Isn't it funny how traumatic it is for us parents to see our kids in pain, but they seem ok after just getting a new toy?

Poor little guy. There are few things worse than rushing your kid to the ER.

I hope he feels better soon.

I took the pictures of him to remind him of the pain and everything else that went along with the injury the next time I catch him doing something like jumping down the stairs again.

He is supposed to be released today. After I get his brothers and sister off to school, I will be heading down to bring him and Mom home. He will still be out of school for a few days though.

In a couple of months, all he'll remember is that he was waited on hand and foot, was the center of all attention, and got a new toy out of it!

Let us know how that works out for you!
