Shaving Cream: How do you use it?

I saw a TV commercial the other night for some brand of shaving cream. They showed a shot of the guy with the cream on his face and it was at least a quarter inch thick.

Now, when my dad showed me how to shave he made a point to tell me that you only need a very small amount of shaving cream, it should almost be transparent on your face. It's main role is to lube the blade.

So, I'm curious. Am I real old school and behind the times? Or are they trying to make some people think that you should use half the can each time you shave?

That way they sell twice as much!

It's like the instructions on the back of shampoo: Lather, Rinse, Repeat!

Great marketing if you ask me, but, as the old ad says, just a little dab'll do ya!

For every day shaving thin is fine. If I've gone a couple days, say over the weekend or on vacation, the extra lather helps gather the longer hairs that have been cut. With a really thin lather the heavy/long hairs stay on my face after being cut.

No shaving cream at all. Simply shave right after I hop out of the shower while those whiskers are still nice and soft.

Same here. I shave in the shower. Beard is nice and soft after bathing. I figure, the amount of money I save over a billion years will buy me lots of guns and ammunition.

I never thought of that... I only planned 1,000 years ahead! A penny shaved is a penny earned!

I like it nice and thick..lol. It just makes it so much more comfy.

If I'm out of shaving cream I used conditioner. Works just as well. No razor burn.

I put it on pretty thin, but I still use a good bit since I shave my head too.

Water?? I just use my KaBar... and it's dull

Seriously though, I use an electric razor, so no cream for me.

    Shave? Not in years, thanks.

I do trim the beard once in a while... Think of all the money I save on razors and shaving cream!

... of course with a wife and 4 daughters, I probably still buy more razors than the average swim team...
Liberty is an inherently offensive lifestyle. Living in a free society guarantees that each one of us will see our most cherished principles and beliefs questioned and in some cases mocked. It's worth it.

If I did that, my face would have razor burn all over it in 10 mins.
