    Now I remember ...

Now I remember why I don't like going to crowded ranges...

I managed to turn a range trip into a family event. Got everyone in there and ended up waiting for a good 30 minutes just to get a lane. I had planned on going early (read opening), but the rest of the fam insisted on getting there around 1130 much to my insistance otherwise. So needless to say I lost and we ended up waiting because all the lanes were packed.

While waiting I overheard a conversation between one of the RSO's and another customer. The short and sweet version is that he's been shot twice by customers in that range and that's part of the reason why they finally racheted up their rules. That was exactly the conversation I didn't need going on when trying to get an uneasy sibling into the range when she was already nervous to start with. UGH!

There's something about crowded ranges and the RSO's on duty being shot that really makes the hair on the back of the neck go up.

I hear ya. When I get to mine and its overcrowded, I leave it for another day. Even when its not and safety is not practiced. I'll say something, then if its still not practiced I'll leave.

    Gee how'd ya know...

I would think after being shot twice in the same range...one would highly contemplate re-evaluating the terms of one's employment...just a thought.

I suppose the plus side is that they don't put up with any nonsense anymore (presumably because of it). While waiting I witnessed a foreign fella that clearly had NO firearms experience. After receiving his rental he promptly began to wave/point in various directions with it while he was talking as if it was an extension of his hands. The guy behind the counter did a quasi-flying leap across the counter, grabbed the business end and pointed it down. I'm pretty sure he was escorted out after that one. They also actually have RSO's on both sides of the walls now constantly checking on people. They never did that before or at least not regularly.

I can't believe it takes someone being shot a few times before they get it.

I've only been to that range a few times. Once during June last year and it was about 115 degrees inside. Some of the worst firearms handling that I've witnessed has been there. I'm all supportive of an American's right to own firearms but man.. nobody took the time to teach safety to them? Uhg. Yeah after being shot the first time I would have quit.

Incidentally that's where I got my HK.

I too wait for the range to be practically empty. But, to its credit, it's a private club, and most all the members are quite safety oriented.

There is however, one sign on the "Range Rules" board that puzzles me:
"NO ALCOHOL OR BEER ALLOWED WHILE SHOOTING"

I was never quite able to figure that one out...

I own my range and only let students shoot there with an occasional DC member joining in on the fun.

That's exactly why I pay good $$$ for a safe, private range that seldom has more than a few people around at any one time...
