POMPANO BEACH - A man who barricaded himself in a condo's club house and took at least two women hostage was shot and killed by a SWAT team this afternoon, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.
The man, whose name has not been released, entered the club house of the Cypress Bend complex, in the 2400 block of Cypress Bend, shortly before 3 p.m., authorities said.
He demanded the homeowner's association hear his complaints, then pulled out a revolver.
A group of women inside called 911.
Police called a SWAT unit to the scene. The man left the building around 3:40 p.m., pulling a gun from the waistband of his pants as he walked toward the SWAT unit, said sheriff's spokesman Jim Leljedal.
That's when the team shot him.
The man was taken to North Broward Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
It'll take at least 10 hours before residents are allowed back inside, Leljedal said.
