    Man arrested in Walmart

Police: Armed Ex-Wal-Mart employee arrested in Texas store 2 hours, 26 minutes ago

A former Wal-Mart employee was arrested in the crowded store where he once worked, armed with a 9 mm handgun and an "unreasonable amount of ammunition" that police believe he intended to use, according to arrest affidavits.

The wife of Edward William Eberle, 51, called 911 around 3 p.m.

Thursday after finding a note he left telling her: "I have chosen a life in prison. ... I'll try to die soon. Please return my library book and walk Cassie," the Austin American-Statesman reported in its online edition Monday.

Eberle also sent a text messages to his sister telling her he loved her but didn't want any visitors or letters, and urging her to turn her television on, according to the affidavits. In a note, he also gave his wife permission to "sell any story you wanna tell."

About two hours after his wife called authorities, police found Eberle in the Wal-Mart, which the affidavit said was teeming with customers and employees.

Police said he had a gun near his chest and an "unreasonable amount of ammunition, leading one to believe that he had the intentions of using the handgun and ammunition he had in his possession."

Eberle was charged with making a terroristic threat and unlawfully carrying a weapon in a place that is licensed to sell alcohol. The felony charges carry up to 10 years in prison each.

Police said they didn't know if Eberle had an attorney. They told The Associated Press he had an Austin address, but there was no phone number listed under Eberle's name in several area directories.

Eberle had worked at the Wal-Mart from September until March, according to police affidavits.

"We deeply appreciate the quick actions of the Austin police to bring the situation under control, ensuring the safety and security of our customers and associates," Wal-Mart spokesman Dan Fogleman said in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

I don't think he was participating in the wally walk,I'm assuming he has no CHL,for legal CHL holders it is not illegal to carry in a place that sales alcohol only if 51% of their business comes from alcohol,I'm pretty sure he intended to take out a buncha people but I don't see anything in the note that says anything about a terroristic threat and as far as the alcohol thing like i said 51%,I'm thinking most they're gonna prove is unlicensed carry of a concealed handgun.

I wonder what is an unreasonable amount of ammo?
If I were to carry my 9mm with 2 extra 16 round mags, thats almost 50 rounds, is that enough?

At least he won't have to pay those late fees at the library when he gets out.

I was just informed in Texas the unlicensed concealed carry of a weapon in a place that sales alcohol is a felony. As far as unreasonable amount of ammo is probably 1 round if they think you have evil intentions

Maybe its just me thinking again, but Walmart has plenty of ammo to resupply with if he has evil intentions. It sounds like he did. On the other hand, I doubt he wold have made it that far with it being Texas and all.

I tend to agree. He probably would of ran into several people that would shoot back.

He should have known better...if you are going to go on a shooting rampage, you are supposed to go to a 'gun-free zone'.

It sounds like the guy was trying to get himself killed.

The article doesn't say anything about how the police arrested him without shots fired, but I'd say the police did a great job with this one.

Great. Let's see if this incident causes Wally World to try to put metal detectors and whatnot at the entrances.

They would lose most of their customers...The average Texan's belt buckle in Austin couldn't make it past a metal detector, much less the keys, change, chain to his wallet, steel toe boots, etc...

Its a shame that this person lost all hope in his life. Maybe a little time in our not so friendly prison system will make him wish for the good old days.
