    Problems at the Canadian border?

Now, this didn't happen to me, it happened to a close friend that has since passed away.
Jeff was born in China in 1939 because his dad worked for Otis Elevator Int'l then and mom went on the long trips.....The war kinda kept them over in the PHILLIPINES for a couple of years.
Fast forward.......1960....Jeff and his friends were on a road trip into Canada. The question at the border was, "Where were you born?"
"Brooklyn", okay, "Queens", okay, "Brooklyn", okay, "Shanghi", oh-what?
Do you have proof of American citizenship?....Chinese citizens needed a Visa to enter......He didn't even speak any Chinese..And they were gonna' ship his butt back to Bejing and suit him up for his mandatory Military Service.....Well, four hours and three calls to both American and Chinese embassy's.....ends up that while in College, he ran the school's radio station and had his Class III Radio Operators License on him. You had to be an American Citizen to get one!
The next time they visited our friends to the North, you know what his answer was.........."Brooklyn", with as thick an accent as you can imagine.....fuggett about it........

I cross the border a lot, once my car was broken into and all of my id was stolen.

It is very hard to enter the US at a border check point without any ID.

I'm from Ireland and when I hand them my US passport. They look at it and when I answer their questions, they do a double take. Every thing is in order and on my way I go.

I heard from a friend that because he had a New Mexico drivers license that he was going to be detained at the border until he could prove he was from the US. This was prior to 9/11 when you could get across the border much easier.
