Florida firefighters help catch fleeing suspects
Posted: Today at 2:12 a.m.
PLANTATION, Fla. — A group of Florida firefighters recently found themselves fighting crime instead of fire.
The firefighters of Engine 14 in Broward County were on their way back to the firehouse Friday afternoon when they saw two masked men walk out of a business and run for a white sport utility vehicle.
They followed the SUV for several miles but the suspects realized they were being tailed - it's hard to be discreet in a fire truck.
Fire Lt. Dean Meadows acknowledged that fire trucks "aren't made for chases." But the firefighters' directions did help a sheriff's helicopter find the vehicle.
The suspects crashed their SUV and were taken into custody. The Plantation Police are investigating.
"If you can't place your shots on a non-moving piece of paper, how much more difficult will it be when that piece of paper becomes a 3-time felon whose sole purpose is to avoid going back to prison no matter what happens and no matter who gets in the way?"

Hooray for the firefighters!!

First BG, "I think we're being followed..."
Second BG, "Why?"
First BG, "Well, unless that firetruck with the 'lights and siren' has been headed to a fire for the last 17 miles?..."
Second BG, "Naw, I don't think so..."
...fifteen minutes later, traveling 70 mph on a side street...
First BG, "I don't know, it's been 35 miles now and they're still on our bumper..."
Second BG, "Well gollllleeeee (said in Gomer Pile voice), I think you might have something there..." (This last comment took place shortly before the crash!)

Congrats to the firefighters...
"That I cannot do."
"Give this to, uh, Clemenza. I want reliable people, people who aren't going to be carried away. After all we're not murderers in spite of what this undertaker thinks."

They are big, brightly colored, loud, and have flashy/shiny things everywhere, trying to follow someone in a fire truck is about as subtle as a sledgehammer, but hey, it worked for them, good job on the firefighters part.
