CSI: Miami . . . said something about "fused alloy rounds"?

Some BG gets shot on CSI: Miami tonight. One of the CSI's sees a single entroy wound and multiple exit wounds and concludes it's from a "fused alloy round". As she describes it, it's an illegal round that is made from fusing different types of metal together. Passes through body armor but the internal heat of the body causes it to fragment.

Google didn't show anything useable. Is this some total TV hooey, or is there some kernel of truth to it?

I have never heard of that. I would have to say it is BS. The round would pass through the body too fast for body temperature to affect it IMO.

Not sure how effective these really are. I thought I heard of some controversy over this type of bullet before. Never heard of them being illegal though.

    Just like the meat bullet.
I haven’t heard any of the journalists who volunteered to be waterboarded asking to have their fingernails wrenched out with pliers, or electrodes attached to their genitals.

Its a fictional TV show meant for entertainment, not education.

Huh. I thought for sure this was total hooey, but the YouTube vid you posted describes something almost exactly like what the CSI program was talking about.

And now my wife is sitting here saying that they talked about this ammo on "that program you watch", by which I think she means Futureweapons.

Even their own explination of how it works doesn't hold up. A bullet leaves the barrel at a waaay higher temperature than the human body, so it would fragment as soon as it exits the barrel. All you would have is a pistol-sized shotgun.

Very interesting…. SO where do we pick up some 9mm?

I like what it did to the pork roast, and it may be the best defensive ammo available

until my 40 watt plasma pistol is ready.

This kind of sounds like Magsafe "pre-fragmented" ammunition.
