When The Wind Blows In Alaska...

    A fully loaded 747 doesn't stand a chance.

A gust of wind blew this Japan Airlines 747 off of an icy taxiway and across an access road at Anchorage Int'l Airport in 1976. I took these pics the next day.

The aircraft was eventually repaired and put back in service.

When you’re wounded and left on Afghanistan’s plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldier.

That is pretty cool. I would have hated to have been on it, but I guess it could have been worse.

Neat pic...Cap'n...were you living in Anchorage or just visiting?

If you like Alaskan wind...try living out in the Aleutian Islands...Adak...called the 'birthplace of the winds'...the average day saw 25 knot winds...120 was the worst we saw...
Check out ADAK, Alaska on the net...we lived there for 7 years...1,200 miles out into the Aleutian Chain...

I lived in Anchorage from 1969 to 1981. Traveled all over the State, but never made it to the Aleutians.

Only the person who did the pilot laundry the next day knew how scaried he really was.

I didn't even exist back in 1976, but that's interesting!
