Also at that time was the Bonsai Kitten Hoax controversy that literally bent out of shape millions of fools around the world. People were up and arms about it and petitions flew to have the people arrested and executed.

Oh man, you have no idea! I remember a buddy sending me the link to see if I would fall for it and I did not. I called him and we had a great laugh thinking about how many fools might fall for it. (You can't see it there, but the original website was masterful and it looked very professional) I passed it along to others in my mailing list and promptly forgot about it. Some months later, another buddy came to my house with a petition in hand asking me to sign it and send it to some agency or .gov thing. He was mighty miffed when I just bursted out laughing and told him he was fooled by a well designed (and yes, somewhat sick) joke. He left with a new appreciation for the possibility that not everything in the net was true. I did get bombarded with emails from other friends wanting me to join them in saving the poor kitties.Quote:
