Btw, I grew up in the City of Alexandria, Va., where the public schools weren't desegregated until 1971. "Remember the Titans" was my graduating class. They sure downplayed the racism in that movie; we had race riots in the summer that year.
The late 1950's weren't really the good old days. They really believed in fairness back then. If you were too tall, they'd cut your legs off and call you "shorty". From the fall of 1968 to 1972, those were the good old days. The political repression and outright tyranny of the 1950's has returned. Pogo was right, "we have met the enemy, and he is us."
