So I was talking to my friend Kara a few minutes ago. She needed a topic for a persuasice essay for her college classes. I said "how about the whole thing with people wanting to take away our guns"

Try giving her the facts in a non-confrontational manner. Since you two are close friends, I would imagine that she thinks enough of you to hear you out and maybe give some credence to what you have to say.

BTW: I used to be surrounded by Liberal "Guns Are Yukky" People.
It's honestly a "workable situation" ~ once they know you personally.
They sort of look at you as a protector & not an adversary.
It's actually kinda funny because they will STILL hate guns BUT, your personal gun will be OK!

I can understand hard feelings when one watches someone else die. There's a lot of anger and blame, and that tends to be placed somewhere, but those need to be placed in the right direction.
My younger cousin was negligently shot in the back in the head by his step-brother while they were out shooting snapping turtles in the pond. He died. It was not cool. But I don't blame the gun - I blame the moron with the gun.
If she is your friend she should be open to discussion where you may both present your sides [and we all know you're right *wink*]. I find that most of the time people like this are just uneducated about guns, and people like us have become a bit desensitized to them, creating potential conflict.
But remember this, you can always agree to disagree - that is what makes this country great. [ok I know that was a sappy cliche but IT'S TRUE!]
