    NATGEO: Fight Science

National Geographic channel has an interesting show called Fight Science. Saw a fairly eye-opening bit on the Taser. A martial arts/self-defense instructor, though knocked down, was able to break the wires and immediately get back to his feet. Granted, he had experienced a Taser hit before, and for this demonstration, he knew he was going to get hit and was able to prepare for it. However, the point made was that if this guy could do it, somebody else could. Anyone using a Taser has to be aware that the shot may not keep the bad guy down, so be prepared.

It's always good to have a Plan B. What will you do if the taser doesn't work or is overcome by the target? Same for capsaicin spray. Not everyone is affected by it. What is your Plan B?

Yeah... it can and does happen, rare though. I'm curious to know what model Taser it was where and how the probes were placed etc.

It's worthwhile to add, that the goal of anyone using a less lethal means of self-defense, e.g. Taser or OC, should only be to allow time to disengage and get away. Once you've deployed a Taser or used OC, you shouldn't be sticking around to see what kind of effect it's having on the BG. Run, run, run........

Heh! Yeah I caught that one and LOVED IT. I found that taser part rather hilarious myself.

The Taser (as explained to me by an LEO who carried one of the first ones on the road in my old jurisdiction) is a useful implement when you have backup who is capable of applying deadly force if the less-deadly force fails.

As a primary means of defense, it's a false comfort, IMHO.

Blame it on Sixto - now that is a viable plan.

That is the most clever language work around I've ever seen. :)

yeah, saw that episode. i figured if it came to that hopefully the BG being down would give me time to "fall back" and reassess the situation.
