Restaraunt warning for our Miami area members.

HIALEAH, Fla. -- Local 10 Problem Solvers made a startling discovery in a Hialeah restaurant -- dead mice appear to have been painted over instead of being removed.

Those who work at La Reina, located at 3828 W. 16th Ave. in Hialeah, claim there is no problem. They said everything has been cleaned up.

And, as Local 10's Jeff Weinsier reported, there is evidence they are working on rodent issues found by a state inspector.

When Weinsier visited La Reina, he noted that an area where an inspector said rodents were entering the restaurant had been sealed up with foam.

But an area where an inspector had found a dead mouse had apparently been painted over.

"Do you see these? Those are mice that have been painted over," Weinsier told a woman who works at the restaurant. "There is a tail. There is one, two. And it smells like mice here. These are mice that have been painted over."

The woman told Weinsier he was crazy. She said the area he was referring to was just part of the floor.

"I have have never seen a floor like that," Weinsier said.

After having been invited in, he was quickly escorted out the door.

The state found 26 violations at La Reina.

In the storage area, there were 100 semi-fresh rodent droppings and one dead mouse. Food debris was accumulated on the kitchen floor. Food was undercooked. Utensils were not rinsed and sanitized correctly, Weinsier reported.

Local 10 reported the findings to the state. La Reina was allowed to re-open following a re-inspection.

I think I would find somewhere else to eat.

My work sometimes takes me to restaurants and based on what I've seen there was only one place that I actually went back to for lunch. But if you are in the restaurant business you know how extra clean you have to be in order to keep away rodents. The food service business is not a business I'd want to be in.

I think painting over a dead mouse instead of throwing it out shows an exceptional level of laziness

I think it takes more effort to paint over the mouse rather than just removing it... but that's just me talking.

It's amazing how the human race survived before Health Inspections. We should have died out as a species when people were eating with their hands and we didn't have disinfectant hand-cleaners.

That said, some of the best food I have ever had were in places that would definitely not receive the seal of approval from the nanny state.

I'll still take the hole-in-the-wall, made in the back of a pick-up truck BBQ over Chili's any day of the week.

And, no, when I was overseas I did not ask what the meat was made of, but it sure tasted good.
There are two sides to every issue: one side is right and the other is wrong, but the middle is always evil.

What kind of primer do you use for dead mice?
