So I wanted to get a dog from a rescue. Never thought about getting a hound dog I've always been a retriever/ lab guy. Anyway saw this dog thought it was a mutt. Turns out that it is a pure breed Redbone Coon hound. Anybody have one of these dogs? I've heard there the same dog in that book "Where the Red fern Grows". I've had him about 2 months now name is Norway, and I tell you what if your looking for a dog, these dogs are awesome. They also are very good looking dogs. Anyway just thought I would brag a little. Heres a link to what they look like Redbone Coonhound - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Don't have any picks of Norway but hes appx 1 year old, and he was a stray, found in GA who now lives in NOVA.
They're great dogs. They have a distinct 'howl' if he ever does it.... you can tell it's a hound .. from far away just from the howl they can make.
IF someone ever breaks into your house..... the dog will probably be sitting on top of them, licking them, waiting for you to come and get them. After all , it's his job to find em and tree em... it's your job to take care of them from there.
Red bones are great dogs, I'm glad yours found a good home. And yes, that is the same breed in the book, If you haven't read it in grade school, its worth the effort to read now.

Congrats on getting yourself a super nice dog.
I'm sure you're giving that hound dog a grand old home life.

Hounds are good dogs, loyal almost to a fault. I am pretty sure my last hound would have followed me into hell (not that I would ever go there). Pretty sure Beagles are hounds too.
Redbones are great dogs,
Be sure to train him and give him something to do, our he'll find something to do.
A real man loves his wife, and places his family as the most important thing in life. Nothing has brought me more peace and content in life than simply being a good husband and father.
Hounds come in many types. I had a large beagle hound when I was in school many years ago. Hounds are great. They are alert, loving, can be protective of whats theirs, and can be trained for many different jobs (mostly hunting). Hunting is where they shine. Here in central VA there are nearly as many hounds as there are people with all the hunters and hunting clubs. A friend from an animal shelter loves you back like few others. Take good care of him and get to know your Vet well. The wife and I got a cat for our first house from the local SPCA and she (the cat) is laying beside my laptop as I type this now.

A friend of mine had a Redbone and it had a very distinctive bark, much different than most Redbones. It was hoarse and raspy. When he was in a pack of dogs, you could tell this one from the others. He called it Chainsaw. Ol' Chainsaw was a hellluva dog.
Tell your doggie that "Bandit" says "Hi!"
