Actually, IIRC, I believe there are officially 48. Two (Massachusetts and Virginia) are Commonwealths.

Actually, there are 4 Commonwealths in the US. Kentucky, Massachusetts, Virginia & Pennsylvania.
I knew it was either 48 or 46. I just couldn't think of the other two and I was too lazy to Google it. And yes, of course, they rate a star. Never disputed that.
