I read that even training for an amphibious landing (US Marines back in the 1940s) was dangerous and there were usually fatalities.

    I see things haven't changed.

Was this perhaps - the archetypal ''sticky situation''???

In truth - Frenchies or not - I'd say I feel sympathy, for their commander choosing such a crap drop off point!!!!!

Wasn't far off being ''up to your neck in ****".

Are you guys sure those are French troops? I saw this a few years ago and it said they were British Marines. I can't tell from the uniforms or weapons who they belong to.

It's a good thing this landing was unopposed!

    Angry

I am shocked that this thread has gone this far WITHOUT one of us "gunnies" pointing this out(especially P95 Carry!)...they are British Royal Marines. Look at their weapons; they are L-85's, the standard issue UK service weapon.

...and whoever mistook them for being Frenchies :chairshot deserves a good ol' country ass whoopin'!!

Bushido - haha - I am suitably admonished

To be honest I did not view it originally in an analytical way and so was probably mostly just seeing the poor guy's predicament. Darn it tho - I should indeed, have spotted the weapon platforms.

Hmmm, maybe it is a bunch of Frenchmen that became UK citizens....
