A 64-year-old Staten Island Island woman with a history of violence and drug arrests was arraigned Simday on charges she fatally stabbed an acquaintance repeatedly with a screwdriver, authorities said.
Ruth Wade, who was known in drug circles as "Grandma," was living with the victim and his wife in their Stapleton apartment after she was evicted from her own place, prosecutors said.
At some point last Thursday, she had a heated argument with the couple and plunged a screwdriver into Henry Showard's chest and back, killing him.
Showard, 45, also had a history of arrests but it was unclear what sparked the deadly fight.
Wade, who was described by police sources as a crack addict, eluded cops for days before being tracked to a shelter outside Staten Island on Saturday afternoon.
She has a long list of drug arrests in addition to separate arrests for slashing a man with a cleaver and menacing another man with a steak knife, law enforcement sources said. She was ordered held without bail.
I guess this is why airports even give Granny a hard look in the security line.
hmmmm.... me thinks landlord should have done background check on his new roomie!
And she was living free...why, exactly? :scruntiny:
