Relatives? / This is why 911 is overwhelmed: MERGED
Man tells 911 slot machine stole his money Tue Aug 5, 3:03 PM ET
A second Florida man has been arrested on charges of making false 911 calls in as many days. An arrest report says 47-year-old Carlos Gutierrez was at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino early Monday and called 911 to say the slot machine stole his money. The report says Gutierrez left the casino to place a second 911 call to say the same thing.
He was arrested and charged with making a false 911 call. He's being held with no bail set.
On Sunday another man was arrested after calling 911 five times during an argument with his brother. He demanded that dispatchers send deputies to help sort things out.
And in northern Florida last week, a Jacksonville man called 911 to complain that a Subway left the sauce off a spicy Italian sandwich.

CNN had a bit today about people making stupid 911 calls. One guy called because his Subway sandwich didn't have mayo on it.

Nah. They are just stupid people.
I've posted before about some of the stupid 911 calls that I have responded too.
One was a call for a to respond to a domestic dispute. Come to find out, an 11 year old was out of control and her parents wanted a Deputy to arrest her.
One, not mine but another officer that was on shift, was for a Deputy to respond to an unknown disturbance. It was for a cat on the roof that wouldn't come down.
Another was for a smallish 4 foot Boa Constrictor that had got loose in the house. Like we are equipped any better than they are to deal with that?
Another person wanted to make a complaint. Apparently, she thought that several bikers were pedaling by her house to fast.
And last but not least, an argument between two neighbors that wanted a Deputy to settle a dispute that I had the pleasure of responding too.
Over a bar of soap.
It didn't look to me like either one had ever used one.

Would that be because one of them wouldn't use it

Hey, not a bad idea, does this work?
I don't trust 911 to respond in enough time for a burglary, why on earth would I think they can help me with mayo on a sandwich?
Should we call 911 to have morons like this arrested, they can very possibly be a danger to someone.

Here's the link to the CNN video about the sandwich. It's only about a minute long. They have a couple of other pointless 911 calls in the video. The person that wanted to be connected to Domino's was hilarious.

I believe it is just a sign of the times, so many people think that no matter what the problem is the government will just rush in to save them and 911 is the number for any government help.

This isn't really very funny when you stop and think about it. Too many people now seem to think that no matter what the problem, the government should come and fix it for them.

This sort of thing happens all the time around here. Police and sheriff's deputies are tied up with nonsense like this several times daily. There seems to be a culture in Montana of depending on LE to do the parenting.
"Out of control" (a euphemism for a temper tantrum) is the most frequent call. One parent called in for an out of control 5 year old.
Other actual examples I have seen (the police logs are published in the newspaper):
A 10 year old boy refused to do his homework. Call the police.
An 8 year old wouldn't go to bed. Call the police.
A boy, 9, pushed his sister, 7, down. Call the police. Boy was arrested for partner/family member assault.
Some people just should't be parents.

And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldier.

I once had a call of a woman who locked her keys in her car.
When we arrived she said she pressed her unlock button and nothing happened. She shows us her key ring with the electronic key fob on it and presses the button on her remote keyless system and says "See I can't unlock my car"
I then asked her for her keys, put the key in the lock and opened the door and handed her the keys

The Subway 911 doesn't surprise me. Fast food brings out the stupid in people. All you gotta do is put the idea of eating that stuff in some people's head and all rational thought evacuates in horror. I work at McD's so I see this often.
For example, recently one customer got upset here going through drive through. He had to wait a whole 45 seconds or so for the family in front of him to order their food. That was enough time for his patience to exhaust and his anger to boil into a frenzied rage. As soon as he got to the speaker he was screaming "(string of profanity) I ONLY WANT ONE (yelled extra loud) DOUBLE CHEESEBURGER! [edited]. When he got to the window to pay he threw an unknown amount of change through the window as hard as he could and kept on driving to the pickup window without pausing. I wasn't in grill at the time so I can't guarantee the quality or sanitary condition of his sandwich.
I'm not sure that the problem is just people relying on the government too much. The basic problem seems to me to be that people nowadays develop huge egos and come to believe that every person and every organization exists to serve them. Their order must come first, the police must serve their desires regardless of whether it makes sense, and eventually they become in inept at solving or even avoiding creating their own problems.

This is why 911 is overwhelmed
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Jacksonville police say Reginald Peterson needs to learn that 911 is not the appropriate place to complain that Subway left the sauce off a spicy Italian sandwich.
Police said the 42-year-old man dialed 911 twice last week so he could have his sub made correctly. The second call was to complain that officers weren't arriving fast enough.
Subway workers told police Peterson became belligerent and yelled when they were fixing his order. They locked him out of the store after he left to call police.
When officers arrived, they tried to calm Peterson and explain the proper use of 911. Those efforts failed, and he was arrested on a charge of making false 911 calls.
Peterson did not have a listed phone number

I'm sure that this clown's brain doesn't list much either.
