Pics of my " hobby lathe"

Now guys , i think that all us gun owners should be able to do " simple " repairs on our firearms . In fact i think we should learn to do a bit more than simple parts replacements , and with that in mind i do a bit of real simple machine work . Its just a hobby for me and frankly i am not real good or real fast on the machining as of now . I thought tho you might enjoy a pic or two of one of my " hobby lathes " over at the step dad's shop . The rifle is a standard Savage Scout used just to give scale to the chuck .

All kidding aside i do have a standard sized lathe as well as a mini. I just thought some members would enjoy seeing a " he man " lathe lol .

Yes that monster does run , and yes we have quite a bit of tooling for it .

Is that the one gallon size can of wd-40?

LOL heck if iirc its a can of JB , i dont remember if its lube or brake cleaner tho . When a lathe needs a crane to move the steady rest you use some stuff that you might not use on a smaller tool . we lube a cut a lot on that lathe with a garden sprayer loaded with a mix of diesel oil and 15/40 motor oil It smokes bad but does keep tooling cool enough .
