Grandma of the year?
Grandma arrested for driving with child on roof Thu Aug 7, 7:54 PM ET
Authorities say a grandmother was arrested for driving around the parking lot of a Marathon grocery store with her 3-year-old child sitting on the roof of the car.
Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the Publix store Tuesday and arrested a 54-year-old woman after she was driving around with her three-year-old granddaughter on the roof of her car.
The grandmother was released from jail 15 hours later.
The woman said Thursday she would never let anything hurt her granddaughter. She says she was driving at "snail-speed" and holding the child's leg.
Authorities say the woman told police she was giving the child some air and letting her have fun.
She faces charges of child abuse. The child is back with her mother.
State troopers should let the grandma have some fun on top of one of their cruisers as they patrol one of the freeways.:image035:
Is there anything that can surprise us these days?
If as reported, it's hard to see this as "abuse" of a child. Who hasn't zipped around the aisles of the wonder-mart in a cart? I'm sure that's far more risky than cruising at "snail's" pace on a car. Granted, it was done at a wonder-mart in the parking lot where loads of opportunities exist for others to point fingers and claim "that's bad!," but in generations past I'll bet thousands of kids grew up getting a ride on the hood or roof of the hay wagon, ending up little worse for wear. Did much the same at age five with my grandfather, at his country house, at ~2mph in the gravel driveway on the hood of his Buick. Abuse? I think not.
What about state laws requiring a child to be in a child restraint seat strapped in while in a moving motor vehicle. It was really stupid on her part but It's not the dumbest or most dangerous thing I ever seen when it comes to small children in vehicles driven by adults
OK, you here has not fallen asleep on the back window ledge of their parents car when the where a kid. Today your parents would get arrested and CPS would be a knocking.
Exactly the point. Interference ... up to the elbow.

They start training for the X Games earlier and earlier don't they?
they should ask the three year old:
"are you having fun, or are you scared right now?"
if the child answers "do it again!" then there's no abuse.
if the child answers "don't let the scary lady do this to me again" then there is abuse.
I don't even want to think about the dangerous stuff I probably did as soon as I could start walking...
Political correctness and wimpiness is going to ruin this country!
Laws like that generally refer to motor vehicles on public roads. This happened on a private parking lot.
