Olympics in China
How does a nation who is towards guns allow shooting sports in the Olympics? Anyone know how this works?

Is it the Yin or the Yang that allows it? That's what I wanna know.
Basic answer is, I'm sure: you don't get to host the Olympics otherwise.

The olympic committee puts out a list of sports and events that must be included in that olympiad. If you refuse to do the shooting events your country does not get the bid to host the Olympics.

Interesting. Does anyone know if Kalifornia's strict laws were in effect for the 1984 games? I have heard that olympic shooters that live in the state can't practice there because of their weapons.

The laws have a way of disappearing when big money is involved.
Atlanta used illegal aliens to do construction for their games even though it was against the law too.

IIRC, they allow rifles for range-only use. I don't believe pistols are used in the olympics.

Pistols are most certainly used in competition.
They use pistols with a magazine forward of the trigger guard, which makes them unlawful in the People's Republic of Kalifornia. I recall reading an article about a young lady, an Olympic competitor, who was seeking a change in this law so she would not have to store and practice with her Olympic competition pistol in Arizona!
Japan is not a gun friendly nation and yet there were winter shooting events. They made the contestants go through some major hoops to get their arms out of lockup; they had to be locked up when not actually in use ... talk about a bad case of hoplophobia dementia!
