Why would anyone leave their door unlocked while in shower?

Rocky Mount dog scares away intruder :: WRAL.com

Rocky Mount, N.C. — A Rocky Mount woman said she got out of her shower Monday to find a stranger in her Benvenue Road home.

"It is just not something you think would happen to you,” Donna Sherrod said.

Sherrod said that while she often left her doors unlocked, she never expected someone to just come inside.

"I was just praying to God that I wasn't about to die,” she said.

Sherrod said she was in the shower Monday when she heard a noise at the door. By the time she saw the strange man, she said, he was already on his way inside.

"He snatches the door open and runs at me and grabs me around my throat,” she recalled.

Sherrod said she thought her best chance of survival was getting to the kitchen to grab a weapon. However, what really saved her, she said, was her 4-month-old dog. He barked and bit at the stranger.

The man was eventually chased back out the same unlocked door through which he entered.

Sherrod said she feels blessed to have survived the attack.

"I won't keep my door open. I learned my lesson,” she added.

Sherrod said she didn't know the man and is hoping police can arrest him.
"If you can't place your shots on a non-moving piece of paper, how much more difficult will it be when that piece of paper becomes a 3-time felon whose sole purpose is to avoid going back to prison no matter what happens and no matter who gets in the way?"

    It's relatively simple.

don't think it can happen to them.

    Stupid comes to mind.......

Sorry, I tried (really!) to come up with a gentler way of saying it, and just couldn't.

Actually, I think that is too gentle, but to stay within forum rules, it will work.

People who leave their doors unlocked make my head hurt. It is the simplest precaution you can take and they don't even do that much. "Blessed to have survived the attack" is an understatment.

A lock on your door is pretty useless against someone who wants to get in. Whether they kick in the door, use a pipe wrench, or use a credit card, jimmie, or bump key, the lock provides very little security.

Atleast someone can't just "walk on in". Someone's going to atleast have to make alot of noise or a strong effort to get in my house.

I would say more of a "gene piddle puddle" as opposed to a "shallow gene pool!"

If I had to guess, her bad habits will come back over time.
