More stupid stuff closer to home today..teen with gun
Fort Smith teen taken from house by SWAT teams
[quote]FORT SMITH - Police were called to the 1300 block of Ninth Street around 4 a.m. this morning. They had received a call of a boy with a gun in his front yard.
When police arrived, the boy had barricaded himself in his house. Since there was a weapon involved, the Fort Smith and Sebastian County SWAT teams were called in.
The standoff lasted for more than five hours before the SWAT teams entered the house and found the boy in a back bedroom. The 15 year old suspect was taken into custody without any problems. His mother, who was in the house, was uninjured.
The police blocked off parts of the area, which included the streets getting to the Lincoln Childcare Center.
Day care workers were told by police they may want to keep the doors locked, but there was no extreme threat. Lincoln Day Care Director Alexandra Altiner says she felt the childcare center was safe.
Altiner said, "We have security codes that we follow and gun shot procedures. You know and things like that and we also have a secured door that nobody can come in without login. So every child has a code that they have to punch in and then the door opens. If you do not have a code the door does not open for you."
There were also a few parents who decided to keep their children until the standoff was over, but now the teen is in custody.
The teen is being held for aggravated assault on a family member and terroristic threatening.
