    finger / palm print technology...

OK I'm not for safeties on guns. But... this might be pretty cool!

I was watching 'Shoot Em Up' on dvd last night, and in the 'making of' featurette, they were showing all their prop guns (lots!) and how some of them had the thumbprint recognition technology, some 'space-age' blue lighted thumb-pad reader on the side of the gun.

The props dude also mentioned that this is based on some already existent technology, which is based on the palm-print (I'm not talking about tropical themed wallpaper). I Googled it but can't find anything. Anyone here seen anything like this? Thanks...

Bad idea...the only safety I want is between my ears. I do not want Congress or state legislature to dictate such technology. If it is popular and reliable, the free market will drive it there. Meanwhile...it ain't goin' on my guns.

    please let's avoid thread drift...

I started with the assumption that safeties are a bad idea.
No mention of legislating any safety devices was brought to discussion.
I just want to know what's already been invented! Has anyone seen anything pertaining to this type of identification technology on a gun, even a prototype?
