    NYC Mass Transit Puzzle

Back in the days when the NY City subway was .40 for a ride, the following exchange happened.

A lone man walked up to the token booth clerk. He gave the clerk $1.00. The clerk immediately gave him two tokens and .20 change.

No words were spoken, no signs were given, no eye contact or notes or hand signals of any kind.

The question is: How did the clerk know he wanted TWO tokens, and not just one?

If no one gets it, the answer will be provided tomorrow.

No, that's incorrect. Once you leave the subway, you have to pay when you go back in.

She knew he was a psychopath and had read the answer to the funeral question.

Even though that's very funny, given the threads of the last two days, it's not the correct answer.

The guy selling the tokens knew the person riding was going to Far Rockaway and needed the second token to get off.

And in my day tokens were 15 cents a piece.

I remember the .15 cent token too! But it's still not the right answer.

    15 Cent Tokens

I still have one of those tokens with the Y punched out of the middle.
It's taped onto a letter a got from Lyndon Baines Johnson which "offered" me a job.

He has a child with him.
