State Sen. Arnie Stuthman, who introduced the original bill dealing only with infants, agreed to the compromise after the bill became stalled in debate.
"The main interest I have is that it gives the mother or a parent another option of what to do with a child before they do something drastic," he said.

Apparently dropping your kid off at the hospital to be taken care of by the State isn't drastic. I must be living in some kind of altered reality.

Same Senator that voted against NE's CCW law. He is a real piece of work. The real sad thing is he is my Senator

..."This law is obviously written in almost skeletal form," he said. "Drafters will sometimes try to say as little as possible so they don't create ambiguity, but drafters here succeeded in writing the law in such a limited fashion that the entire provision is ambiguous."

Nebraska lawmakers acknowledge the courts will have to sort out the details
    ...
The "lawmakers" should not expect the courts to sort out the details 1 month after the law is written. They should expect it to be clear enough that it doesn't need to be "sorted out". How are the courts supposed to interpret the laws if the lawmakers themselves look at the law and can't explain what they meant.

How do you "abandon" someone who's legally an adult? 18-19 years old?

Texas has the "Baby Moses" law.

United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County
The intention of the law is to prevent abandonment of newborn infants as 25 percent of abandoned infants die. Of the 17 infants saved in this program in Texas since 1999, nine were in the San Antonio, Bexar County area.

The Texas Baby Moses law states that a mother may leave an unharmed infant, up to 60 days old, at any hospital or fire station without disclosing her name or any information. Accordingly, the mothers who leave an infant at one of these sites (designated Safe Baby Sites or Safe Haven Sites) receive immunity from prosecution for child neglect and abandonment.

When you drop them off... where do they go from there? Do they just vanish?

Can you drop off other peoples kids too?

Can I just drive around town and round up all the little "mini-thugs" for drop off?

Do they give you a deposit like soda pop bottles? Like 10 cents per kid?
