Denver is throwing out the rule book.

ABC Reporter Arrested in Denver Taking Pictures of Senators, Big Donors
Police in Denver arrested an ABC News producer today as he and a camera crew were attempting to take pictures on a public sidewalk of Democratic Senators and VIP donors leaving a private meeting at the Brown's Palace Hotel.

Police on the scene refused to tell ABC lawyers the charges against the producer, Asa Eslocker, who works with the ABC News investigative unit.

A police official later told lawyers for ABC News that Eslocker is being charged with trespass, interference, and failure to follow a lawful order. He also said the arrest followed a signed complaint from the Brown Palace Hotel.

Eslocker was put in handcuffs and loaded in the back of a police van which headed for a nearby police station.

Video taken at the scene shows a hotel security guard, wearing the uniform of a Boulder County sheriff, ordering Eslocker off the sidewalk in front of the hotel, to the side of the entrance.

The sheriff's officer is seen telling Eslocker the sidewalk is owned by the hotel. Later he is seen pushing Eslocker off the sidewalk into oncoming traffic, forcing him to the other side of the street.

About 15 minutes later, on-duty Denver police arrived and placed Eslocker under arrest after Eslocker asked why he was being ordered away from the front of the hotel. Dozens of pedestrians can be seen walking by the hotel, located in the heart of downtown Denver.

Eslocker and his ABC News colleagues are spending the week investigating the role of corporate lobbyists and wealthy donors at the convention for a series of Money Trail reports on ABC World News with Charles Gibson.
No need to try to understand the plight of the guy arrested with guns in the hotel lobby any more. The laws have been suspended this week.

The people of the press corps, having no respect for the Second Amendment, should not expect their First Amendment rights to be honored.

You're absolutely right. Let's create a generalization which permits throwing out any particular Constitutional right you like.

Denver like Chicago, or say DC has no rule book . They neither know nor do they care about your " rights " . Denver on occasion has described its self as the " San FranSisco " of the rockys , and they continue to prove it .
Make sure you get full value out of today , Do something worthwhile, because what you do today will cost you one day off the rest of your life .

You can bet that ABC News knows how to protect its reporters; and there will be h to pay if the story is essentially true.

Poor Denver tax payers; this will cost them.

Everyone knows when the reporter is released, the story he was following will be gone. DNC wins. Power corrupts. And Denver is a willing accomplice.
Let's see how Minneapolis does next week.

P.S. It's not ABC's first cookout either. I'll bet they had some hidden cameras inside.

The liberal press forgot a long time ago that:
The 2nd Amendment is the one that protects all the others.

What this has to do with the story is a mystery. I guess you're suggesting Eslocker should have shot it out with the deputies.

My point in posting this was to show all those who argue minutia of the law that it doesn't mean a thing when the power brokers are in town. Power corrupts. Forget the law. Sue? Good luck.

Sounds like the guy broke the law. Why do so many here support lawlessness?

    "his rights, his rights!"

I see the mob mentality beginning to take hold in this forum. Disregard the law if you think it is your right. Ignore the police officer because you think it is your right. Please.

Society has a 'right,' no, an obligation to arrest those who stray from the law. This guy is no better than any other criminal and will probably deserve more penalty than whatever his ultimate punishment is.

    And then he should SUE!

I wonder how often the hotel calls police for people on the sidewalk?

Exactly which law did this 'criminal' break? An order to leave the public sidewalk? Is that one on the Denver books?

    Respectfully curious...

The question will be if the hotel does in fact own the sidewalk, and if the terms of their deed allows them to restrict public access.
